Community Planting at Oruatua - 10 May 2025

What an unforgettable adventure we had at Oruatua Recreation Reserve on Saturday! Despite the wet weather and a river running high, over 50 hardy volunteers braved the elements to help plant 2,500 native plants in one of our most ambitious community planting days yet.

With the access tracks flooded, the morning didn’t exactly go to plan, but that didn’t stop anyone. Thanks to Murray’s boat, Tania’s ute with a snorkel, a fleet of kayaks, and some very committed waders, we managed to get everyone across to the planting site safely.

No planting day at the Oruatua Recreation Reserve would be complete without a legendary smoko and BBQ. Huge thanks to the team behind the scenes for keeping everyone fuelled with home-baked treats and venison sausages. It was the perfect reward after a wet and wonderful morning!

We’re so grateful to everyone who came along, pitched in, and made it such a memorable day. Our next planting in the Oruatua Recreation Reserve is Sunday, 15th June. Hopefully, the tracks will have dried out a little by then. See you there!
