Te Matapuna Wetland Walk

Join local Project Tongariro conservation legends for a walk around the shores of south Lake Taupo's wonderful wetlands - Te Matapuna.

Explore the 'kidney's of the lake' and learn about this unique landscape and its inhabitants. Come and see for yourself what 15 years of restoration work looks like! No cost but a koha to a local restoration project will be appreciated!

Trip Length: Approx 4-5 Hours
Minimum Age: 12 Years (Kids must be accompanied by an adult)
Maximum Participants: 20 (A minimum of 5 people is needed for this trip to proceed, otherwise booked people will be refunded)
Meeting Place: Licorice Café Motuoapa. @8.45am
Transport: Own - Personal vehicles - must have a high wheelbase. 4WD vehicles preferred, but a 2WD with high clearance is acceptable. We will encourage carpooling to minimise the number of vehicles and road safety risks.
Cost: Koha

Postponement date 15th January if the forecast for poor weather. Other criteria for postponement / canceling include Covid alert level increase.

Participants are asked to bring the following:

  • Water & windproof & warm clothing (clothing will get dirty)

  • Packed lunch and water 

  • Gumboots / or walking shoes you’re ok with getting wet

  • Sunglasses / sunscreen / sunhat

  • Snacks and drinks

  • Personal first aid kit

  • Personal medication

  • Camera (optional)

Please note: The Trip Leader reserves the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.
