Waihaha Wilding Conifer Control Working Bee 2023

Wilding conifers (including Douglas Fir) are a serious threat to our local ecosystems. They seed and grow very easily in our region, creating competition for our native flora and fauna. Left unchecked, this wilding plantation will continue to grow and infect other nearby sites.

Come and help pull out wilding pine seedlings from beneath a mature stand as part of the ongoing wilding conifer control project. It’s easy work, and your contribution will make a huge difference! Bring along friends and whānau and a picnic for a lovely day’s outing. Join local conservation group Project Tongariro and Department of Conservation staff and hear about conservation efforts in our region. Waihaha is part of the Western Bays of Lake Taupō and forms part of the Great Lake Trails mountain bike network.
