Kia ora Subscriber First Name I’m reaching out to share an invitation to a special upcoming event we’re hosting, and to introduce our new Project Tongariro Legacy Programme supporting the future of conservation across our region. Project Tongariro is a community-led conservation organisation that has worked across the Central Plateau for more than 40 years, restoring and protecting some of our region’s most significant natural landscapes. Many people will already know our work through programmes including Greening Taupō, Kids Greening Taupō, Predator Free Taupō, Oruatua Recreation Reserve Restoration and Lake Rotopounamu Forest Restoration. Working alongside communities, iwi and hapū, schools, volunteers, councils, businesses, and the Department of Conservation, Project Tongariro helps restore forests, wetlands, waterways, and native biodiversity across the region. To give you a sense of the scale of this work, last year alone over 14,000 volunteers contributed 50,215 hours to conservation activity across the Central Plateau. Together, we planted more than 48,000 native trees, trapped over 8,000 predators, and connected 21,180 young people with environmental education through partnerships with 46 schools, kura, kōhanga and early childhood centres. As we look to the future, Project Tongariro is launching a new Legacy Programme focused on growing long-term support for conservation across the region through donations and gifts in Wills to our enduring Project Tongariro Legacy Fund held with the Geyser Community Foundation. To help mark the launch of this kaupapa, we are hosting Canvas for Conservation, an invitation-only conservation-themed afternoon auction event, along with an opportunity to hear more about the vision of Project Tongariro.
