There are several events that occur in the national park over the year which Project Tongariro is asked to help for which we get a donation. These events are important for us as we get recognition for the work we do in the park and the events help to spread the word about Project Tongariro. The Land Rover Tussock Traverse event is an event run solely by Project Tongariro and is an important day in our calendar. This year the events and dates are:

Marshalling the “Goat” mountain run
When:  Saturday 6 December 2009
Where:  Between Whakapapa and Ohakune
Description:  Help marshal this mountain run, over the Round the Mountain track between Whakapapa and Ohakune.  This is a great fundraiser for TNHS.

Land Rover Tussock Traverse mountain run/walk
When: 25 January 2010
Description: This is Project Tongariro’s own event in Tongariro National Park, proudly sponsored by Land Rover. Help out on this fund-raising event by marshalling along the track or assisting at the finish line. The run/walk goes from the end of Tukino Rd, past the historic Waihohonu Hut to Whakapapa.  Heaps of fun and laughs for everyone involved. Any help the day before would also be appreciated.

Kite Day at Whakapapa
When:  1 January 2010 from 10.00am on the golf course in front of the Bayview Chateau Tongariro
Where:  Whakapapa
Description:  A fun event in partnership with the NZ Kite Flying Association and Chateau Tongariro. People can either bring kites to fly or have a go at making one there.  Kites will also be on sale, with free paper kite kits for children. We will also have a Project Tongariro display and BBQ and help with manning this and assisting young people with their kite making would be appreciated.

Summer Nature Programme
