First established in 1984, the Society aims to introduce people to the park and conservation projects. You can support us in a variety of ways.
Take a little time and browse around our site, perhaps join us in helping maintain our beautiful natural resource that is Tongariro National Park.
The Society's objectives provide the basis for our work. We aim to:
- Promote a wider knowledge and understanding of the flora, fauna, geology, climate and the natural and human history of the Tongariro National Park
- Promote and publicise research about ecology and natural history generally
- Publish, sell and distribute information, publications and programmes promoting the objectives of the Society
Future aims are to:
- Increase participation and support for conservation in the Tongariro National Park.
- Increase awareness, public understanding and support for the natural and cultural features of the Tongariro National Park and the Society's aims and objectives.
- Maintain a programme of field activities for Society members to offer opportunities to explore Tongariro National Park, share ideas, network, see progress or results of our work, offer suggestions to the executive and staff and generally "keep in touch".
Our summer event

Our main summer event was the Land Rover Tussock Traverse, held on
26 January 2008, a safe friendly fun event.
