The award is given annually to students researching the flora, fauna, vulcanology, weather and natural and human history of Tongariro National Park. An annual grant of $2,000 is available with a maximum single grant of $1,000 awarded per project.

The award was established in 1992 and has assisted scientific research projects in the Tongariro National Park each year. This work is available from the Department of Conservation library in Turangi.

Applications must be received by 31st May each year. All applications will be considered in June, with a final decision being made in early July.

Your application should contain information about your research project, its goals and objectives, estimated completion date and the amount applied for, with a detailed breakdown of costs showing what the money is to be used for. Information about other grants that have been made towards your project or confirmation that none have been applied for or received is also required.
